Standing Cross-Crawl
A gentle marching pattern where the opposite hand and leg move together. It warms up the whole body and trains coordination.
Key cue: Opposite hand meets the lifted knee, chest tall, easy rhythm.

mobility
How to do it
- 1Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart, near a wall or chair if you need support.
- 2Start with your hands up by your shoulders. Lift one knee to about hip height and bring the opposite hand down to meet it.
- 3Lower and swap sides, moving in a steady, relaxed rhythm.
- 4Keep your chest tall and breathe normally. Do 10 on each side.
Easier and harder versions
- Easier
- Do it sitting on a chair, tapping each hand to the opposite knee.
- Harder
- Tap the elbow to the opposite knee, and speed up a little once your balance is steady.

Form tips
- Start slowly and speed up only when the pattern feels easy.
- Touch the knee with your opposite hand, or your elbow for a bigger twist.
Common mistakes
- Leaning back as the knee lifts.
- Holding your breath while you concentrate on the pattern.
When to avoid or modify
- Stand next to a counter or wall with a hand free, or do it seated, if your balance is not good.
- Keep the lift low if raising your knee is painful. After a hip replacement, skip it unless your surgeon has said it is fine.
If in doubt, check with a qualified physiotherapist before continuing.
